METİN GÜNEŞ: WE EXPORT FERTILIZER TO APPROXIMATELY 60 COUNTRIES

Metin Güneş, Chairman of the Board of Fertilizer Producers Importers and Exporters Association (GÜİD), drew attention to the investments of Turkish producers in fertilizer and said, "We export fertilizer to nearly 60 countries."

Güneş said in a statement that the Turkish fertilizer companies in the private fertilizer industry have made serious technological investments.

Stating that the use of fertilizers decreased after the increase in foreign currency in 2018 due to the procurement of raw material resources of the sector from abroad and the sector, Güneş noted, "We were adversely affected by this situation."

"Special fertilizer market is growing very quickly"

Pointing out that the special fertilizer market in the world has grown very quickly, Güneş added, "Today, Greece is a country behind of us in terms of agriculture, but the special fertilizer market in this country has attained 25 percent of the classic fertilizer market. Therefore, many companies operating in our sector are investing in this field."

Reminding that the fertilizer sector is dependent on foreign sources in terms of raw material sources, Güneş gave an example of nitrogen fertilizer and explained, "One of the most important sources for us to produce the fertilizer in question is natural gas. In our country, we want to provide added value to our economy in many respects as workmanship and packaging."

According to TurkStat data, Turkey's fertilizer exports rose to 251.4 million dollars in 2018, while in 2015 this figure was 134.4 million dollars.
