DR. FATİH SEYİS: THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE PRODUCT TO TEA

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University (RTEU) Dean of Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Sciences. Dr. Fatih Seyis said that some talk about developing alternative products to tea, but not any crop can be an alternative product to tea. Seyis, in his written statement, expressed his satisfaction of the campaign named, "Hayde Çaya Bakalım" (Come on let's drink tea) initiated by ÇAYKUR Deputy Director Yusuf Ziya Alim and said that this is a formation of a new ownership  toward tea. Seyis stated, "In the 1970s, 1 kilo of tea came to a worker's 3 daily wage. Since then about 1 million people with their families today farm on 835 thousand hectares, living on by tea producing." Seyis, while dealing with agricultural issues, also noted, "We should be involved in understanding the producers. There is a lot of misinformation about fertilization. TEA CONSUMPTION RISES IN TURKEY AS DIVERSITY INCREASES...

Rize Commodity Exchange (RTB) Chairman Mehmet Erdoğan said that tea lovingly consumed in Turkey where the most consumption per capita in the world... Stating that tea consumption has increased in Turkey, Erdoğan also noted, "There is a stock of around 70 thousand tons in the store of ÇAYKUR transferred from last year. This was around 65 thousand tons the year before. The private sector had a stock of around 30-35 thousand tons last year too. Not much changed. Than we have produced 35 thousand tons more tea compared to previous years. But our stocks are the same. We produce more product yet we were able to sell and drink. We can see that the increase in tea consumption across the country. It is possible to say that tea consumption in Turkey raised to 260 thousand tons. ÇAYKUR PURCHASED OVER 136 THOUSAND TONS OF FRESH TEA SO FAR...

ÇAYKUR (State Owned Tea Enterprise) Deputy General Manager Yusuf Ziya Alim said that they determined 2019 year organic tea difference fee as 2 liras 90 kuruş, for the base price 5 liras 80 kuruş... Yusuf Ziya Alim said, "We have already purchased over 136 thousand tons of tea in the second shoot period." Alim reminded that they opened the second shoot period on July 1, while they continued tea purchasing without any problem so far.   Stating that they purchased 136 thousand tons of fresh tea during the first shoot period in May, he explained:  "In return, we have paid 393 million liras to producers. In June, we received 152 thousand tons of tea. In return, the producers will be paid 440 million liras by the end of this month. Difference fees for 2019 year organic tea as 2 liras 90 kuruş and base price 5 liras 80 kuruş have been fixed. Wednesday, 12 June, 2019 The highest tea purchase in the last 20 years by the General Directorate of Tea Enterprises (ÇAYKUR)... It was reported that during the first period, the highest figure in the last 20 years, over 230 thousand tons of tea purchased.  ÇAYKUR General Directorate, in a written statement, remembered that the period of tea purchases began on May 10 and still going on. "As of today we have realized the purchasing of tea by over 230 thousand tons. We continue to receive young age tea, which is suitable for our enterprises as much as it can process, with daily planning and we continue to produce at full capacity in all of our factories" also added. Officials then noted that they continued to produce fresh tea without interrupting even if there were any agglomeration, waiting or any trouble.
