ARKHE AGRICULTURE: ANIMAL TRANSFERS SHOULD BE RESTRICTED IN THE FEAST OF SACRIFICE
Press release...
A coronavirus warning came from experts for the livestock industry...
Emre Pınar Kılıç, a member of the Izmir Chamber of Commerce (İZTO) Agriculture and Livestock Commission and veterinary surgeon Gürhan Karaçaylı, said that the coronavirus could survive in the summer months and that measures should be taken.
“A type of virus predominantly seen in animals”
Underlining that measures should be taken in the summer period, İZTO Agriculture and Livestock Commission Member and Arkhe Agriculture Partner Emre Pınar Kılıç said that coronavirus, which needs a host organism to live in the summer, can survive in animals. Stating that farmers working in the agricultural sector should maintain their social distance, Kılıç said, "Our farmers, who continue their dialogue with animals, especially in animal husbandry, are already in close contact with animals or working in the stable; They should protect themselves and their families, considering the possibility of infection from animals. Coronavirus is actually a type of virus predominantly seen in animals. Coronavirus can also show its presence in animals."
“Restriction should be imposed”
Arkhe Agriculture Partner Veterinarian Physician Gürhan Karaçaylı expressed that those engaged in animal husbandry should wear gloves and masks in their one-to-one contact with animals. Reminding that the animals should not be moved in open areas outside the barn, Karaçaylı noted, “Stables and milking rooms should be disinfected frequently and the Veterinarian should be informed in case of fever and diarrhea of the animals. There should be restrictions on animal transfers especially in the Feast of Sacrifice."
“The virus also poses a risk to animals”
Pointing out that by keeping the immune system strong and taking the necessary precautions, we can get rid of this disease within two years, Karaçaylı added, "The virus has shown at least forty mutation changes since the day it was first seen. In this case, unfortunately, serious time will be needed to produce vaccines and make them applicable to humans. The most correct way to overcome the disease is to provide herd immunity and spread the infection over a long period of time. We should not forget that this virus poses a risk for animals as well as the simple measures we will take."
