DR. SEVCAN ÖZTEMİZ: AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS AND FOOD MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE WITH MONEY IN CRISES
Dean of Düzce University Faculty of Agriculture Prof. Dr. Sevcan Öztemiz said, "As long as human beings exist, it should never be forgotten after this epidemic that will
also require food based on agriculture."
With the coronavirus, which affects all the countries of the world and threatens human health, it was once again understood how strategic and vital sector agriculture is, which meets the food requirements required for people to survive.
Stating that agriculture and food will be much more important than today, Dr. Sevcan Öztemiz said, "
"Agriculture sector which has come to the agenda in recent years with factors such as population growth, global warming and climate change and reduction of water resources, now takes place in global agenda through pandemic, sustainable production and food security supply more strongly."
Öztemiz noted, "Based on the general assumption that such problems will be experienced globally from now on, it will be much more important than today in the future, as in the past, agriculture sector has become a strategic sector as important as defense."
"Agricultural products and food may not be available with money in crises"
Expressing that the Eurasian Economic Council reported so as the people not having problems in food needs and the provision of adequate food for the risk of spreading the corona virusepidemic, "As in the past crises and all crises that are predicted to increase in this epidemic process and future, it is expected that there will be a rise in the frequency of such events. So the world is facing a grave picture where food is unavailable," she warned.
"Once again showed how important food safety is"
Emphasizing that there is a need to strengthen a sustainable agriculture understanding in which agriculture and technology are integrated in order to ensure the development of the agricultural sector in our country and to carry the 2023 vision to its goals, she added, "Sustainable agriculture includes adequate and quality production of foodstuffs with low inputs, protection of agricultural area, environment and natural agricultural resources, practices that will increase the living standards of farmers and rural residents, which aims to use natural resources in an environmental, economic, social and cultural manner in order to leave a healthy and livable environment for future generations."
Qualified agricultural education...
Stressing that Turkey, which has a high agricultural potential, also has a very important role for everyone in order to sustain its current potential in the agriculture and food sector, Öztemiz concluded, "This will only be possible with agricultural engineers who meet the demands of the market with qualified agricultural education. Providing agricultural employment in rural areas by preventing migration will also be beneficial."
