PROF. DR. KAMİL SINDIR SUBMITS A RESEARCH PROPOSAL REGARDING CHERRY INDUSTRY...

CHP (Republican People's Party) İzmir Deputy Prof. Dr. Kamil Okyay Sındır brought the troubles  experienced by the cherry sector and producers to the agenda of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). Sındır, who submitted a research proposal to the Assembly Presidency to develop long-term and sustainable strategies in the cherry sector. Sındır asked the Minister of Trade Ruhsar Pekcan about the problems that exporters might experience during the epidemic period and the measures to be taken to reduce the costs of exporters. Sındır also asked the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli regarding the measures taken to enable producers to market their products more comfortably and to ensure continuity in production. CHERRY EXPORTS GENERATES 183 MILLION DOLLARS IN NINE MONTHS...

Turkish cherry growers have surpassed their yearly export target of 80,000 tons, thanks to the opening up of the Chinese market and favorable seasonal conditions, generating a record 183 million dollars in revenues.  According to the Aegean Exporters' Association (EİB), Turkey's cherry exports, in the eight-month season between Jan. 1 and Aug. 21, hit 80,406 tons worth 183.1 million dollars. The figure broke the previous record set back in 2016, despite a two-week delay in the initiation of export operations. The EİB data showed that Turkey exported 78,524 tons of cherries worth 182.6 million dollars in 2016. Exports, however, declined the following year to only 59,806 tons, generating 158.9 million dollars. Last year, the aggregate cherry exports were recorded at 76,094 tons, worth 161.6 million dollars. TURKISH CHERRY SURPASSES CHINA WALL AFTER TEN YEARS...

Turkish cherry surpasses China wall... Cherry exports reach 155 million dollars... Turkey, world leader in the production of cherries, has been fighting to export this product to China since 2010 that imports 800 million dollars of  cherries annually, reached a happy ending. Turkey exported cherries to China for the first time worth 1 million 380 thousand dollars. It was also sent to Hong Kong by 76 percent increase of 3 million 357 thousand dollars. Stating that cherry is the prestige indicator at the table of Chinese people and that Chinese people like cherries very much, Hayrettin Uçak, Chairman of the Board of Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters' Association (EYMSİB) expressed that the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and Ministry of Commerce cooperated in order to remove the barriers to export. SALİHLİ CHERRIES WILL BE TRAVELLING TO FAR EASTERN COUNTRIES...

Wordly known Salihli cherries, produced in modern cherry orchards in the Kemer district of the town, have been tasting the Europeans' mouths for 4 years. But this year far eastern countries including South Korea will be having the same taste. Cherries collected from the branches are loaded into the trucks to be sent to Europe and the Far East.. Haluk Nayman, owner of the largest cherry orchard in the Aegean region which is 78 hectars in Salihli, a county of Manisa, said that they had set up the orchard in 2011 since they thought that Turkey really needed modern and large fruit gardens. Nayman emphasized that there are 40 thousand trees in the cherry orchard, stating that the seedlings are now 8 years old, “Cherry is a very valuable fruit and there is a huge demand from abroad.
