Turkey's milk production up over 6% in Q1 of 2020... Country's statistical authority says milk collected by integrated dairies totaled nearly 2.5M tons Turkey's cow milk production rose by 6.3% year-on-year in January-March, the country's statistical authority said on Tuesday. TurkStat (TÜİK) said in a statement that the amount of cow milk collected by the integrated dairies was 2.48 million tons in the first quarter of this year. Official figures showed that drinking milk production also saw an annual rise in January-March -- up 11.3% to 422,076 tons. In first three months of this year, Turkey produced 184,038 tons of cheese, 98% of which was made from cow milk as the rest was produced from sheep, goat, buffalo and mixed milk. Yogurt production by integrated dairies increased by 3.8% to 272,535 tons during the same period. Production of the salty yogurt drink, ayran, came up at 154,266 tons, decreasing 2.5% compared to the same quarter of last year...

Turkey collected 9.56 million tons of cow's milk in 2019, the country’s statistical authority revealed on Feb. 12. The 2019 figure slipped 4.7 percent compared to the previous year, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) said in a statement. The country produced 1.5 million tons of drinking milk last year, indicating a 7.3 percent annual drop. Cheese production from cow’s milk also fell 6 percent year-on-year to some 679,000 tons. "Cheese production from sheep, goat, buffalo and mixed milk was 28,100 tons, dropped 15.9 percent when compared to the previous year," it added. Turkey's animal production saw an increase of 4.7%, around 3 million, year-on-year in 2019, the country's statistical authority said on Thursday. TurkStat said the total number of animals in Turkey last year reached 66.6 million. Including cattle and buffalos, the number of bovine animals totaled 17.87 million in 2019, up 3.8% year-on-year. Official data also showed that the number of ovine animals, including sheep and goats, soared 5.1% to 48.5 million over the same period. "Sheep number increased by 5.9%, and became 37.27 million heads; goat number increased by 2.6%, and became 11.2 million heads," said the institute. The figures also showed that there were nearly 262,000 donkeys, horses, mules, camels and pigs in Turkey last year. Over the year, the country produced 348.8 million poultry animals -- chickens, turkeys, ducks and geese -- down by 2.9% on an annual basis.
