ALİ HAYDAR GÖREN: TURKEY REALIZES 69 PERCENT OF GLOBAL HAZELNUT PRODUCTION

Istanbul Hazelnut and Products Exporters' Association (İFMİB) Chairman Ali Haydar Gören said that Turkey enjoys the record production amount of hazelnuts with 776 thousand tons this year and covers 69 percent of global production. Gören also noted that if Turkey keeps up the current policy, new records may come out in 2020.  Gören made the following assessment of the sector's performance in 2019: "The most pleasing development for us in 2019, despite the decline in hazelnut production in rival countries, our country has increased by more than 20 percent to 776 thousand tons of breaking records. 56. HAZELNUT EXPORTS HIT 262 000 TONS, BRING IN 1.54 BILLION DOLLARS...

Turkey's hazelnut exports hit nearly 262,000 tons from last September to this July, a regional trade union announced on Friday. The Black Sea Hazelnut and Products Exporters' Union reported that Turkey earned 1.54 billion dollars from hazelnut exports during the first 11 months of the season. With nearly 75.3 percent of total exports, the EU was the top market for Turkey's hazelnut exports. The union figures said 42.7 percent of the country's hazelnut exports were processed products worth some 655 million dollars, while the rest were raw hazelnuts. Turkey -- the world's largest hazelnut exporter -- earned 1.78 billion dollars with nearly 287,000 tons of hazelnut exports last season, from September 2017 to the end of August 2018. www.aa.com.tr

BAYRAKTAR: STATE INTERVENTION IN HAZELNUT MARKET FOR THE SAKE OF PRODUCERS

Hazelnut Agricultural Sales Cooperatives Union (FİSKOBİRLİK) Chairman Lütfi Bayraktar said that hazelnut price has been announced early and the state has decided to intervene in the market on behalf of producers... Pointing out that all the actors in the market will take a position according to this attitude of the state regarding hazelnuts, "Maybe some sectoral representatives were thinking of a higher price but when considering the price of nuts compared to previous years is I would say quite well" he noted. National Hazelnut Council (UFK) President Sebahattin Arslantürk said that they might easily reach the export of 4-5 million dollars if they could increase productivity and quality of the product while reducing costs... In his written statement, Arslantürk stated that the most important agricultural export product should be followed by stable policies planned from production to consumption instead of vicious conflicts in hazelnuts. Arslantürk said, "Stable policies should be formed in a comprehensive manner including the producers as well as the final target consumers. It is not possible to say that our hazelnut policies are good and sound. Supporting the land rather than the product at the production stage means that we start badly. To improve efficiency and quality, we need to switch to a product-based support system, not lands."
