DAVUT ER: WE DEMAND STATE SUPPORTS TO BE INCREASED A 100 PERCENT
Turkish olive and olive oil exporters, to reach the export target of 1.5 billion dollars, asked for support from Minister of Trade Ruhsar Pekcan to increase the state supports a 100 percent given by the Ministry of Trade.
Davut Er, Chairman of the Board of Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters Association (EZZİB), who visited the Minister of Treade Ruhsar Pekcan, wanted to increase the support given by the Ministry of Trade to Turkish olives and olive oil, which are branded in packages. Er demanded that supports given to 1-2 kg of packed olives and olive oil also be given to 1-3 kg of packed olives and olive oil.
Asked supports for producers as well...
EZZİB Chairman Davut Er called for help from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in order to raise the premium of 0.80 lira/kg for olive oil to 2.5 liras and also 0.50 lira/kg support for table olives not given for the present.
Minister of Trade is the captain of our export ship...
Pointing out that Minister of trade Ruhsar Pekcan is the captain of export ship, Er said, "We visited Mrs. Minister with sectoral representatives so that to get support for issues that need to be resolved. We had a very efficient meeting. Another issue we want to support, to increase the domestic consumption of olive oil, the rate of 8 percent value added tax to be reduced to 1 percent. She approached very positively to all our demands."
Underlining that in terms of olives and olive oil production in Spain, Italy and Greece are in front of Turkey, "These countries give 0.91/kg euro support to olive oil producers. That's why both Turkish producers and exporters need similar levels of support in order to be able to compete in international markets," he noted.
"Turkey's European Union of duty-free quota on the export of olive oil is only 100 tons, but Tunisia has a quota of 56 thousand tons, so we demand 15-20 thousand of quotas recognition for Turkey. We also asked Mrs. Minister to give us a hand," he added.
Er reminded that Anatolia is the native land of olive trees and said, "Turkey has a very nice aromatic flavours of olive oil in each region. If similar supports might be provided to Turkish olive and olive oil exporters, seizing the 1.5 billion dollars of export target would be as easy as a pie."
