AHMET YÜCESAN: WE ARE READY AS RED MEAT PRODUCERS FOR THE FEAST
Association of Red Meat Industrialists and Producers (ETBİR) Chairman Ahmet Yücesan said that they expected 10-15 percent price hikes on the sacrificials according to last year in İstanbul...
He also said that they foresee the prices of live animals begin from 26 liras on bovines and 23 liras ovines as of kilograms.
Yücesan, in a statement, declared that during Feast of the Sacrifice in Turkey between 800 000 - 1 million cattle, along with 2.5-3 million ovine animals slaughtered, however Turkey has enough inventory for this process.
Around 80 000 cattle only and nearly a million ovine slaughtering is expected only in İstanbul, yet shipments for Istanbul has not yet started, but there is a large number of demands for sales to municipalities and private sector.
Domestic animals will be brought from all over Anatolia...
Yücesan noted that cattle to be sold in Istanbul will be brought from Anatolia and Thrace and especially domestic animals will be put up for sale in markets.
"Live animals will be shipped from almost all parts of Anatolia, especially such provinces of Şanlıurfa, Diyarbakır, Gaziantep, Tokat, Yozgat and Adapazarı will take the lead" he added.
Yücesan expressed that retailers earn more while they sell imported meat. "However, I do not want to import it despite this. Especially the locality of meat and food and nationality is very important. I don't sell imported meat even if it is free for me. Because I always prefer my own breeder, my own farmer and my own producer" he said.
Yücesan, while noting that the recent decrease in retail sales of red meat in Turkey, stressed that last year's economic problems as well as the negative rumours about the red meat affected the price level...
