BİROL CELEP: TMO SHOULD KEEP ON BEING AN ACTIVE PLAYER IN THE MARKET
Press release...
Let's preserve the value of Turkish raisin together with Turkish Grain Board (TMO), exporter and producer!
Exporters enjoy nowadays that the price of raisins, one of the most important agricultural products in Turkey, exceeds 2 dollars per kg after three years.
Exporters demand from Turkish Grain Board to intervene in the market in order not the average export prices fall below realized the level of last season. Meanwhile the yield is expected to increase slightly compared to last year in 2019/20 season.
Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters Association Chairman Birol Celep, in his written statement, said that falling down from the prices of 2018/19 season would mean putting money importer's pocket and transferring resources abroad in vain. "Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, producers and exporters should act hand in hand to be able to export at the value it deserves" Celep noted.
Reminding of Dr. Bekir Pakdemirli, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, saying at the beginning of 2018/19 season 'Price of raisin will not be below 7.2 liras' that constitutes the basis of the success of 2018/19 season, Celep stated, "We came together with Dr. Bekir Pakdemirli and General Manager of Turkish Grain Board Ahmet Güldal, in the United States on the occasion of World Dried and Shelled Fruits Congress in May and we requested TMO to enter the market in 2019/20 season so as to make purchases and make us feel their presence in terms of regulating the market. Until Licensed Warehouse systems become effectively widespread in Turkey, the presence of TMO as an active player in whole market carries much importance. Thus both farmers and exporters along with our country might have gained thanks to TMO."
