The International Competitiveness Project that gives way the fresh fruits and vegetable exporters to discover the Air Cargo, Turkish cherry and grapes to the Far East market in cooperation with countries in the opposite climate, increasing the export season to 12 months in the fresh cherry and grape products comes to an end.

Stating that the URGE Project, named Boosting International Competitiveness in fresh cherry and grape products, which opened the horizon of the sector, Hayrettin Uçak, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Union, also said that the companies participating in the URGE Project also achieved great gains in the fields of institutionalization and efficient production.

"Despite Turkey's fresh cherry and grapes production is the worldwide leader, in terms of exports we fall behind some countries with less production" he added. Uçak also remarked, "Chile has become the world's largest player in the export of cherries by opening up remote markets by air cargo. That's why we give much importance to air cargo and thus focused on the Far East market."

"There has been a serious awareness in the sector about diversifying existing markets for sustainable and value-added exports and expanding our exports to the Far East market. Thanks to our URGE project, we have started exporting to Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore and South Africa. We believe that our exports to the Far East will increase exponentially thanks to this project in the coming period" he underlined.

On the other hand 13 member companies have completed the participation in the International Competitiveness Project on Fresh Cherry and Grape Products, 2 training activities and 5 International Marketing Activities have been carried out within the scope of the project.

In addition, methods of producing better quality at lower costs were emphasized and good practice examples were shared. If our companies continue to apply what they have acquired in this training program, they will make a difference to their competitors in the coming years in terms of both institutionalization and efficiency and they will be competitive in export.

Within the scope of URGE Project titled Boosting International Competitiveness in fresh cherry and grape products, the first overseas marketing activity took place in Chile. Then follows respectively Germany / Fruit Logistica Fair, Malaysia - Vietnam, South Africa and China International Marketing Activities...
