SUGAR BEET PRODUCTION TO RISE OVER 21 MILLION TONS THIS YEAR...


Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry announced that sugar beet production this year is expected to increase by 11.4 percent over 21 million tons in Turkey...

According to a statement from the Ministry, sugar factories continue to work rapidly throughout the country, beet production is also increasing gradually.

Beet production in Turkey is expected to exceed 21 million tons this year with an increase of 11.4 percent compared to last year.

In the marketing year 2019-2020, an additional 1.5 million tons of sugar beets were produced within the scope of the quota, reducing starch-based sugar quotas to 2.5 percent.

All sugar consumed across the country is produced by domestic and national sources. 95 percent of sugar production is obtained from beet by the way.

In the marketing year 2019-2020, 97.5 percent of sugar is expected to be obtained from beets.

Sugar beet production is planned by considering supply and demand balance in order to meet sugar needs. Contracts regulating the terms and conditions of procurement and production conditions are signed between beet farmers and sugar factories, guaranteeing the rights and responsibilities of both parties.

SUGAR IMPORTS DECREASED

According to the statement, the amount of sugar imported for Inward Processing Regime (DİR) for export purposes has decreased significantly.

Sugar imports made in the first 4 months of the year within the scope of DİR, decreased by 41.5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, fell to 47 thousand tons.

On the other hand, the "C sugar" allocated to the exporters of confectionary products in the domestic market rose by 154.4 percent to 52 thousand tons in the 4-month period of the year.
