Şemsi Bayraktar announced the sacrificial prices...

Turkey Union of Chambers of Agriculture (TZOB) Chairman Şemsi Bayraktar held a press conference yesterday.

Bayraktar said: "This year, we estimate that 3 million 600 thousand animals will be slaughtered, approximately 900 thousand bovine and 2.7 million ovine. We also estimate that the amount to be paid for the sacrificials this year will approach 11.9 billion liras."

Bayraktar explained: "Although it differs according to provinces and live weight, it changes between 5 thousand to 30 thousand liras per animal, between 750 liras and 3 thousand liras in sheep and the price of live weight per kilogram, 18 to 26 liras in cattle, 19 to 30 liras in ovine."

Pointing out that while looking at the country average, it is seen that the price of live kilograms of cattle is 21.72 liras and the prices of ovine are 23.74 liras, Bayraktar noted: "Cattle prices in live kilograms are among the three biggest cities where sales are the highest, 23 - 24 liras on the European side of Istanbul, 25 - 26 liras on the Anatolian side, 20 - 24 liras in Ankara and 19 - 24 liras in İzmir."

Expressing that in terms of the average prices of bovines increased by 5.7 percent and 10.7 percent for small ruminants compared to last year, Bayraktar reminded: "There are cattle and sheep sacrificials more than the number of animals that we expect to be slaughtered during the Feast of Qurban. This situation shows that our citizens will not have trouble finding sacrificial animals."

"If the sales are not realized as expected, it is required that Meat and Milk Institute should buy the unsold animals of producers after the Feast. On the other hand associations and foundations should not act for profit, should give the producer's right to the producer" he concluded...
