The Konya Plain Project prepared by the Ottoman Sultan Abdulhamid Khan in 1907 is completed to make the barren lands suitable for agriculture. The water flowing from the Göksu Basin to the Mediterranean Sea is transferred through canals with a length of 225 kilometers and accumulated in dams. With the Blue Tunnel Project, one of the important pillars of the project, 125 km long Apa Hotamış Transmission Channel, which will transfer water to Konya Plain, was provided with trial water. The water released from Suğla Storage reached Acıgöl in Süleymanhacı Village of Karaman and Hotamış Storage 10 kilometers southeast of Çumra district of Konya. Built on the old Hotamish Lake 26 kilometers in length and 580 million cubic meters of storage volume of the world's largest artificial lakes Hotamish Storage which began to be given water to the region's farmer gathered to witness the historical moment. Farmers announced the meeting of water with the land from their social media accounts.

"Product pattern will change"

Karaman County Chamber of Agriculture Chairnan Mehmet Bayram said that the production pattern will change through the meeting of barren lands of Konya with water.

Mehmet Bayram also stated that because of the cost to be fallen, we will make significant contributions to the corn planting since we have problems in producing because it is very high. I assume that our region will be a leading corn producer in Turkey which we need 8 million tons of this crop.
