ABDULLAH ÖZDEMİR: WE HAVE PLENTY OF PULSES IN STOCKS, NO WORRY

National Pulses Council (UBK) President Abdullah Özdemir said that there was no problem in meeting the demand for pulses products due to the new type of coronavirus (Kovid-19) epidemic and that there were enough stocks for 2 years.

Özdemir also explained that Turkey is among prominent countries in terms of the consumption and production of pulse crops.

Stating that the demand for basic foods has increased due to the first case of Kovid-19 in the country, Özdemir emphasized that citizens should not worry because of the artificial panic atmosphere created.

Özdemir pointed out that astronomical prices related to legume products on some websites should not be considered seriously and said that they are continously in communication with leading chain stores across the country.

Stocks filled with pulses enough for 2 years...

Özdemir said, "In our country, there are 21 thousand stores of 3 chain markets. They reached us 2 weeks ago and said that if they increased their demands by 30 percent, could we meet them? We also conveyed that there are products in our stocks. In the last 3-5 days, these markets have increased their demands by about 30 percent. According to the figures of Turkey Statistics Institute a person consumes annually 5 kilograms of chickpea, red lentils also close to this ratio. Beans 3.5 kilograms, green lentils 1.5 kilograms."

There is no problem in supply of the products...

Noting that there is no problem from product supply to distribution, Özdemir concluded, "Everyone should feel comfortable. We have enough products for 2 years for everyone. We have enough pulses to take us to the new harvest season. I can easily say that there will be no problem in the supply, distribution and finding of the products."
