WOMEN MAKE UP 50 PERCENT OF THE AGRICULTURAL LABOUR FORCE IN LIBERIA...
Women make up almost 50 percent of the agricultural labour force in Liberia . They make essential contributions to the agricultural and rural economies across the country .
Rural women often manage complex households and pursue multiple livelihood strategies. Their activities typically include producing agricultural crops, tending animals, processing and preparing food, working for wages in agricultural or other rural enterprises, collecting fuel and water, engaging in trade and marketing, caring for family members and maintaining their homes.
With all these contributions and efforts, much has not being done to recognize the significant women continue to play in the country’s agriculture sector development.
Over the last few years, the rural women structure with support from the Ministry of Gender and Social Protection being making significant contribution in responding to the food security problem in Liberia but will required the needed support for the women to move ahead with their ambitious food security program.
