Ankara - 21.03.2020 - Union of Turkish Agricultural Chambers (TZOB) President Şemsi Bayraktar said that according to the annual available amount of water falling Turkey's per capita is among the countries facing water scarcity.

Bayraktar also said, "We have to take measure against drought and save water. Turkey is not rich in water. Wasting even a drop of water is treason to future generations."

In his statement, due to the March 22nd World Water Day, Bayraktar stated that water which is indispensable for life, is not distributed evenly in the world, while in some regions, tens of thousands of cubic meters of usable water falls, while in some regions it becomes almost impossible to reach clean water.

"The annual available amount of water per capita in Turkey in 1347 cubic metres. That means our country, which suffers from water shortage today, faces the risk of becoming poor due to the increase in the population. We should act with this consciousness and not waste our water," Bayraktar noted.

"Adequate water use is essential for efficiency"

Pointing out that the need for food has increased in parallel with the population increase in the world, Bayraktar said that in the following years, agricultural production should be increased in order to provide food security and meet the raw material needs of the industry.

"It is imperative to follow a sustainable water policy and to create rational and permanent solutions, We utilize almost all agricultural areas in the world. There is only one way to increase production, which is to increase productivity. The most important factor we will use to increase the efficiency is nothing but water. Adequate water use is essential for efficiency," he concluded...
