TURKEY AIMS TO EXPORT OF 900 MILLION DOLLARS OF CITRUS...
Press release...
The Aegean Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Exporters Association's Chairman Hayrettin Uçak announced that they expect citrus production and exports to hit a record high this year.
Uçak shared the Aegean Agricultural Research Institute's results on the expected yields. According to this, 264 thousand 468 tons of oranges, 121 thousand 918 tons of mandarins, 50 thousand 824 tons of lemons and 4 thousand 571 tons of grapefruits are expected this season.
"This year, we expect a record high yield this season with 442 thousand 349 tons of citrus. We have already surpassed last season's (2017/18) total yield which was 428 thousand tons. It is expected that the products are of high quality and that there would be no problems in exports. Rains during last year's harvest and this year's flowering period have exhausted the trees. Ripening of fruits are delayed by 10 to 15 days. We expect the harvest to be delayed by 15 days this season. In 2018, Turkey earned 738 million USD (665 million Euro) from citrus exports. This season we believe that we will reach the 900 million USD (811 million Euro) exports target" Uçak stated.
Then, Uçak shared some figures on Turkey's ranking in global citrus production and exports value for each citrus product in 2018:
Product Global Ranking Exports Value (USD) in 2018 Exports Value (Euro) in 2018
Orange 9 101 million 91 million
Mandarin 3 286 million 257 million
Lemon 6 280 million 252 million
Grapefruit 7 70 million 63 million
Uçak also added that a majority of citrus exports were destined to Russia last year with 268 million USD (241,5 million Euro) worth of products. This was followed by Iraq, Ukraine and Romania. Overall, Turkey exported citrus to a total of 75 countries.
