TOBACCO PRODUCTION REVIVES IN MANİSA REGION AS PRICES RISE...
Gördes, Selendi, Köprübaşı, Demirci, Saruhanlı, Gölmarmara and Akhisar districts in Manisa province are covered with tobacco, while producers wanted to be paid 30 liras by drawing attention to the increase in input costs.
In Manisa, the rise in tobacco prices increased interest in the production of tobacco. The price of tobacco reached 25 liras, while producers also made ready to sell the tobacco packaged after the process of having cracked. Tobacco production, which came to the point of exhaustion due to the quota introduced in the early 2000s, revived because of the increase in prices. Manisa's Gördes, Selendi, Köprübaşı, Demirci, Saruhanlı, Gölmarmara and Akhisar districts have been covered with tobacco. Tobacco seedlings grown in nylon greenhouses met with soil in April, producers broke their tobacco and dried.
ORGANIC TOBACCO 28 LIRAS...
The increase in tobacco prices boosted the producers' hopes. Gördes Chamber of Agriculture Chairman Mehmet Koç said that many farmers provide for their livelihood with tobacco production, while the prices of other products, producers have tended to tobacco.
Koç also noted, "1 550 producers deal with tobacco planting. There has been an increase in recent years. This year about 1600 tons of production was made. Last year, the price of tobacco 21 liras. This year, the price of organic tobacco is 28, non-organic tobacco has an initial price of 25 liras."
CONTRACTED PRODUCTION...
Stating that tobacco producers work on contracted planting, Koç added, "Farmers have finished the tobacco cracking and packaging operations. However prices of input costs forced the farmer so we want the price to be increased to 30 liras."

Noyan Gürel, a businessman operating in the tobacco sector, stated that production is entirely based on supply and demand, "Tobacco companies determine how much they need and make contracts with the producer according to him. If producers sign a contract, they make certain their selling of production," he said...
