TUNÇ SOYER: IZMIR WILL BE THE CAPITAL OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT
"Izmir will be the capital of rural development"
Speaking at the Bergama Kozak Plateau Festival, which is organized for the second time this year in order to bring Kozak Plateau to tourism, İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer said that they aimed to make İzmir the capital of rural development.
İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, which carries out important works for development of Bakırçay Basin and opening of Kozak Plateau to nature and plateau tourism, organized Kozak Plateau Festival with Bergama Municipality.
In Kozak Kermes Area, 110 producers both introduced their local products and generated revenue from sales. Tomatoes, grapes and pine nuts grown in Kozak Plateau, as well as honey, jam and pine nuts desserts were offered great interest.
In his opening speech, the Mayor of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer said that his basic visions are to increase the potential of the region with the correct, functional and nature-friendly policies towards agriculture and to use the added value produced for the welfare of all the people of İzmir. Tunç Soyer said, "Fertile soil for agriculture with our vision to inspire Turkey, with fields and vineyards, we aim İzmir to be the capital of rural development."
80 percent of pine nuts from Kozak...
Stating that the Festival will contribute greatly to the publicity of Kozak Plateau and protect the economic value of pine nuts, Soyer added, "Kozak Plateau provides 80 percent of pine nuts produced in Turkey and 10 percent of global production alone. This magnificent place, adorned with centuries-old pine trees, is one of the most important rural tourism areas not only in İzmir but also in our country with its villages of the same beauty. These and similar festivals bring together the products grown in the fertile soil of our ancient geography. It also encourages the production of our farmers and makes an important contribution to the economy of Izmir."
