PROF. DR. CEMAL TALUĞ: AGRICULTURE AND FOOD ETHICS CONGRESS MAY BE A TURNING POINT
Press release...
Invited speakers will be finalized at the 2nd International Congress on Agriculture and Food Ethics organized by Izmir University of Economics and Agriculture and Food Ethics Association.
Prof. Dr. Cemal Taluğ, Agriculture and Food Ethics Association (TARGET) Chairman of the Board said: "It will be a great gain especially for the internationally respected speakers who will participate in our Congress from abroad, and those who want to reach up-to-date information on agriculture and food ethics. Our Congress to take place on October 24-25 may be a turning point in these issues that are being discussed in our country."
Recalling that the countdown has started at the Congress and the final submission date for abstracts is 9 September 2019, Dr. Cemal Taluğ said, “We are happy to hear the announcements from all over our country. The interest shown to the Congress from different circles shows that ethics will have a short history in our country but will be discussed more in the near future. It is not possible for us to remove some of the issues that have become common these days, without really speaking ethics and ethical rules. The concept of ethics will be reflected in the practices to the extent it is found in laws and consciences. After that, we can hope that we will less experience many problems, such as ’adultery’ and ‘food tricks' in the future. We will have the opportunity to think more about many concepts such as ‘fair agriculture’, ‘respectful agriculture’ and access to healthy foods which are the main subjects of contemporary agriculture and food ethics and to create approaches specific to our country. We will be able to develop a wide range of opinions and suggestions from soil ethics to animal welfare. In order to serve these goals, we have determined our Congress subjects to be very attentive, broadening and inclusive. Otherwise, it is difficult to create an effective agenda and awareness in the field of ethics within the daily flow and tempo of life."
Stating that during the congress studies, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Izmir Chamber of Commerce and Izmir Commodity Exchange, especially some institutions and organizations that provide significant support, Dr. Cemal Taluğ concluded: "It is not an easy task to organize an ethical congress within the framework of ethical rules. In this process, the small number of institutions and organizations that we call for support and cooperation to adopt and support our Congress is a separate reason for hope and pride. The fact that institutions as well as individuals take care of ‘ethical’ issues will accelerate the spread of ethical awareness in our country."
