ANAMUR REGION PRODUCES 80 PERCENT OF BANANAS CONSUMED ACROSS TURKEY...

Anamur (A district of Mersin province) Chamber of Agriculture President Ahmet Şeref Gümüş told Anatolian Agency (AA) correspondent that banana production can be made in the district for 12 months of the year.

Previously stated that the annual per capita banana consumption in Turkey is 2.5 kilograms of silver, it's come out and said they think 8 kilograms will continue to increase.

Gümüş stated that banana production in the field of agriculture has improved very steadily.

In Turkey, about 800 thousand tons of bananas consumed annually reminiscent of silver, said:

"We meet about 80 percent of this as domestic production. This production was 15 percent in the 1990s. The policy that our government followed in banana import carried us to these levels today. In 2018, we had a production of around 450 thousand tons. In 2019 we increased this production by around 100 thousand tons to over 550 thousand tons. This year we have a production target of around 650-700 thousand tons. "

Gümüş added that banana will become a product that can be exported and preferred by industrialists in the coming days.

Banana producer Nuri Özgün stated that he has produced bananas in the greenhouse he has built on a 6-decare land for 14 years. I will take the loan and move on to the greenhouse construction phase. I aim to get over 40 tons of productivity with the new greenhouses I will build in August. " said.

Özgün said that they grow bananas naturally in a greenhouse environment so that citizens can consume fruit in a healthy way.
