Ankara University Food Safety Institute Assistant Director Prof. Dr. U. Tansel Şireli said, "Unpackaged foods that are not periodically inspected may be virus carriers."
The World Health Organization (WHO) draws attention to the importance of the issue in the fight against the coronavirus epidemic, which is effective worldwide, by sharing the hygiene practices that should be considered during the preparation of the food, while experts warn about food safety to prevent the spread of the virus.
“Open foods can be a carrier of the virus”
Ankara University Food Safety Institute Assistant Director Dr. U. Tansel Şireli underlining that basic hygiene rules should be followed to prevent transmission of viruses, he also warned that unpackaged foods might be virus carriers.
Pointing out that unreliable foods that come with the contact of sick individuals may be carriers, Şireli noted, “The recommendations of the World Health Organization for foods must be followed. Basic non-contamination hygiene measures should be implemented for open cheese, milk, yogurt, raw meat, vegetables and fruits and other foods. Street milk that is sold open and whose milking and storage conditions are not certain should be avoided. Pasteurized or UHT milk, especially heat treated, should be preferred for milk drinking."
