SÜLEYMAN BAKAL: ANNUAL WASTE OF SPREADING BREAKFAST EXCEEDS ONE HUNDRED BILLION LİRAS
Süleyman Bakal, the Chairman of the Consumer Support Association (TÜKDES), who has recently made popular comments about spreading breakfast, said that annual waste has exceeded 100 billion liras.
Many foods are wasted due to the widespread spreading breakfast culture. Breakfast services, which started early in the day, last until evening in the dining areas.
Foods such as olives, cheese, jam, honey, cream, fries, tomato, cucumber and bread, which come at the spreading breakfast attracted by the unlimited tea option, are removed without consuming.
Turkey Foundation for Waste Reduction (TİSVA) has calculated that 214 billion liras of food waste in a year corresponded to 12 million tons of food.
Emphasizing that the amount of waste surpasses 100 billion liras, Bakal said, "TİSVA announced that it is 100 billion liras in spreading breakfast but we think of that amount is more than the said money."
"Spreading breakfast must be priced separately"
Suggesting some proposals in order to prevent the waste derived from the culture of spreading breakfast, Bakal stated, "We invite businesses and consumers to give up spreading breakfast to prevent wastage. This should be priced separately. Consumers should pay as they eat."
